Foster Friday: Inappropriate vs. Caring

People amaze me every day.  Especially today!

Scene:  Me and Person #1, who I have met multiple times were having a discussion about cupcakes that I baked, of which I really need to start posting recipes.
Person #1:  You should really have some kids at your house!
Me:  Hopefully soon!
Oh really?

Yeah, we should be licensed foster parents by the end of April.
Oh?
[pause as they process the unexpectedness of my statement]
Yes, we are really excited.  We will be licensed for two and have requested infant to 4 years old.
Are they weekend kids?  Or every day kids?
Every day kids [cringing at the awkwardness of the terminology, but going with it since post people aren't up on the foster child lingo]
Well, what are you going to do with them?
[pause hoping there is more to the question]
[realizing there isn't more coming]
Love them.
Well, what are you going to do with them when you go to work?
Bring them to daycare.
Well, what are you going to do with them when they get a runny nose?
Same thing I would do if they were my biological child.
[end scene]

I definitely wasn't expected to be asked what I was going to do with a foster child.  Really?  What kind of answer was expected to that question?

And yet tonight, a person I have met for the second time asked me very appropriate questions.  How long is the average stay?  Are you hoping to adopt?  How much notice do you get from the time you get the call?  If you had two children, they would be a sibling set?  AND she even offered for me to shoot her email (along with other people who I don't know very well) when we get the child(ren) so they could help out with the essential items for that age/gender.  Really?  That's awesome.  And so generous.  And shows that not all people are completely inappropriate.  And in fact, they are willing to go out of their way to not only support us, but support a child that really needs it.

Inappropriate People: 1

Caring People: 1

Let's hope the caring people can pull through for the win!
